Painting on wood

Out of the darkness of the recent US Presidential election came a passion to create "like a team of wild stallions" coming through.  This time my creativity is taking the form of painting on wood.....with metal frames. I'm loving the metal and painted wood combined!......(you really have to see them in person to appreciate that part :-)

This guy found his Forever Home right away at the Recycled Arts Festival last weekend (held a stone's throw from Portland in Vancouver, WA)......

I caught this photo of my sculpture at Portland International Raceway the other night at sunset.  It's made of brushed aluminum, however the sun made it a beautiful yellow....(it's about 19' tall)

Whew!  What a busy 2014 so far.  I've been working on creating my online catalog of welding projects at weldingforfun.com and finally have some loaded!  Soon there will be tons of great projects to choose from.  Here's a few that I've got completed and either on the website or getting ready to load:

New Wall Sculptures

This wall sculpture is about 2ft around.................I love circles!  You might not be able to see it, but there's a metal ruler in there too.......just under the top orange piece.

I am excited about these new abstract sculptures for the yard!  Here's five of them.  (I think they would work well inside too.)

Sculpture for a local show

I created this sculpture for a group show at Dragonfire Gallery last month.  The show was called 'The Space Between The Notes' - the source of all creative energy before it is expressed, the experiences that take us to the space between.....

Following is my explanation of how I chose to work with this idea:

When I was contemplating this exercise, the thought that finally took shape was that of ‘movement’.  'The space between' is often thought of as a ‘being’ space, or one of emptiness.  My experience is that always within that place of ‘being’ is an underlying movement.......a trajectory forward that some might call an ‘evolutionary impulse’ or state of becoming.  It’s always in relationship to where it’s been and where it’s going and is therefore inherently informed by that.  My sculpture is intended to express this movement that I experience as an integral aspect of ‘the space between’.
